I have been talking to Dan about getting my site in Google. Currently if I do a Google search for Shane Butler I am not listed in the results (but my old pages are though). Interestingly, I am at the top of the Yahoo! results. In his blog, Dan points out that Google has a sitemaps feature that allows you to specify information about how frequently your site should be re-indexed. Better still is the Google Sitemaps Generator, a plug-in for Wordpress that automatically contacts Google when your blog is updated.
I have implemented HTTP 301 redirects so eventually Google should become up to date. If you are interested in optimising your site for Google, I suggest reading “Why Google is Saving the Web”.
