Predicting footy tips
After a discussion with Paul Bracewell of Offlode on modelling footy (in his case, rugby), I’ve decided to have a crack at AFL myself. I’ve started writing scripts to collect the relevant data off the Internet using Perl magic. I’m not sure, but I think I might also include other peoples tips. Monash University already has a probabilistic footy tipping competition in which they encourage people to place their tips with a probablility for each game. They give info on “AutoTippers” and provide raw data which could be useful. Also, I found an interesting Swinburne University page on predicting AFL games.
It would also be interesting to see how the predicted probabilities compare to the likes of the TAB. Swinburne has a page on working out the overlay and some other interesting things.
